Future site of new bog, a.k.a. gBog
| So as the fall starts to roll in, I have plans to start construction of my first in ground bog. The current projected size is roughly 3ft. x 12ft. Here is a picture of what the site looks like. It is located directly on the east side of the house and get about 5-8 hours of sun per day, depending on the season. The unknown plants that are growing here definitely dont do too well since they always burn up from the sun. So my plan is to move them to a lightly shaded area of the yard. | ![]() |
From here you can see the dwarf red banana on the left and to the right of it along the house will be dug up, leaving a 12" clearance from the house. The length from the banana to the fence is about 16 ft. and I am planning on finding some other flowering plants to put at the end of the bog to bring some life at the fence end. There is also a drainage pipe that runs along the front of the garden so there will be about 8 inches of shallow zone along the front of the garden. On the end closes to the water source I am thinking of making it a pool so maybe I can try my hand at some Aldrovanda again, who knows.

This is the drain from the central A/C unit located behind the banana trees. It will be the future watering source for the bog. I should never have to water it during the growing seasons as the A/C will be in use during the warm seasons. It also produces roughly 100 gallons per 24 hours. Its pretty dang efficient, more than I can say about the A/C itself. |
Of course this is just the beginning of a long project. I will probably begin digging in the week or so(once i get the liner so the rains dont fill it back up) and I’m really trying to remind myself to get pictures as I do this so people can actually see what it is I’m doing. So expect updates on this and hopefully progress.
